After you’ve discovered what kind of window you have in your home, the next step is deciding what you would like it to look like. Here at Skylight Blinds Direct, we have a plethora of blinds with different designs and functions; with something for every room, from bathroom to loft window blinds, we’re sure you’ll be able to find one that you love. If you’ve never installed a blind before, you might be tricked into thinking that it’s a daunting task. However, blind installation is actually very simple and, with the help of our guide, you’ll have them put up in no time!
Classic Skylight Blinds
Step One – Along the top of the blind cassette, you will find a long, sticky strip which you need to peel off.
Step Two – Next, position the cassette along the top of your window. This should slot in place along the top of the frame. Press this firmly into place to allow it to stick to the frame.
Step Three – You should be able to see two holes on either side of the window. Using a hand screwdriver only, secure the cassette into place using the screws that were provided with the blind.
Step Four – If required, now is the time to reposition the blind to ensure that it fits perfectly. You can do this by adjusting the bottom bar, ensuring that it is positioned in the centre of the blind.
Step Five – Insert the side rails, one at a time, securing into place with the screws provided. Again, only use a hand screwdriver for this step.
Step Six – Your blind is installed! To operate your blind, tilt the middle of the bottom bar towards the window to raise or lower the blind as desired.
Motorised Skylight
Step One – Remove the backing from the left installation bracket.
Step Two – Position the installation bracket onto the left-hand side of the window frame, fixing in place with a screw.
Step Three – Repeat steps one and two on the right-hand side.
Step Four – Align the blind cassette with the installation brackets, pushing it into the frame, securing tightly.
Step Five – Rotate the handle of the blind before screwing that into position.
Step Six – Again, repeat this step for the right-hand side.
Step Seven – Untie the belt tensioner and slide into the side rail (it is important to note in this step that the belts should not be twisted).
Step Eight – Push the side rail to the bottom of the sash and screw into position and repeat on the other side.
Step Nine – Pull the blind. This will remove the stick and allow the blind to function.
Step Ten – Next, push the tensioners until they click into place to finish the installation. Your blind is now all ready to go, so use the remote to operate!
I have 35 old velux windows. The blinds fit on a bar that you can pull down and slot into a grove in 3 positions including fully closed. I just need a blind to attach on to the pull down roller bar, can you help please. Many thanks.
Hi Alyson
you need to remove the old wooden velux blind
the grooves down the side are part of the blind not part of the window
we can definately do a lovely new blind for your velux window
once the old frame is off please send us over the width and the height of the visible glass in mm and we will be able to identify the blind for you.
There is usually a plate on the window which has a code on it.
please reply with the above info and we will be able to tell you which blind to order.
Many thanks
Naomi
